Friday Outlook, Oct 9, 2026: FSU at Louisville Leads the Card

Three televised college games, a weather-shifted FCS kickoff and Sunday NFL injury notes. No calls posted yet; every pick settles on our public ledger.

Friday, October 9, 2026, is a narrow day with a long tail. The listed board runs 58 college football games, 15 NFL games and 51 FCS games, but the live action tonight sits in three televised college windows and one weather-adjusted FCS kickoff. Several games on the slate were already played Thursday, and the NFL has no Friday games. As of this writing, PeoplesPicks has posted no calls today. Picks post through the day, and each one is logged with its line on our public, tamper-evident ledger, where it settles as a win, loss or push with no edits.

College Football

Florida State at Louisville, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN. Louisville is a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 59.5. Florida State arrives at 3-2, 3-1 away, after a 1-2 start and a statement win against Virginia, chasing a third straight win. Louisville is 2-3, 2-1 at home. The tension in that number is straightforward: the market is asking a 2-3 home side to cover more than a field goal against a road team that has won its last two. A 59.5 total points to expected scoring, which puts weight on red-zone efficiency and explosive-play rates rather than defensive attrition.

No. 20 Iowa at Washington, 9:00 p.m. Washington is a 3-point favorite with a total of 41.5. Iowa's defense has allowed 12.6 points per game, and Washington is 1-4 against the spread. That total of 41.5 is roughly 18 points lower than the Louisville game, which tells you how much of this matchup is priced on Iowa's defense. The open question for any model is whether Washington's 1-4 cover record reflects a team that has been overrated in the number or a small-sample run of close outcomes. Five games is not much evidence.

Iowa State at No. 8 BYU, 10:15 p.m. ET, ESPN. BYU is a 10.5-point favorite. Double-digit lines put more weight on late-game variance: garbage-time scoring, backup snaps and fourth-quarter pace can move the final margin more than the first three quarters do.

Already final from Thursday: Liberty beat Sam Houston 35-3, and Jacksonville State edged Kennesaw State 27-26. Those games are off tonight's board. The rest of the listed slate, including Texas at Oklahoma, Indiana at Nebraska, Texas A&M at Missouri and South Carolina at Florida, falls on Saturday's window. We will address those as calls post.

What a disciplined model weighs here, in general terms: opponent-adjusted efficiency on both sides of the ball, pace and expected possessions, home field, rest and travel, and the gap from its own number to the posted line. If that gap is small, the correct output is no pick.

NFL

No NFL games are played Friday. The board's value today comes from Thursday practice reports that shape Sunday numbers.

- Cincinnati at Miami: Ja'Marr Chase (concussion) was limited. Tee Higgins (groin/neck) did not practice. Two primary Bengals receivers carrying designations is the most material availability question on the Sunday board. - Las Vegas at New England: Ashton Jeanty was limited with ankle and foot injuries. - Minnesota at New Orleans: Justin Jefferson (ankle) was limited. - Denver at the Chargers: Pat Bryant (ankle) is listed as doubtful.

"Limited" on a Thursday is not a game-status ruling. The model treats it as a probability adjustment, not a yes or no, and we will not commit to a line until Friday and Saturday reports narrow the range.

Tampa Bay at Dallas was played Thursday. With Baker Mayfield out with a dislocated right thumb, rookie Jalon Daniels made his second NFL start. Antoine Winfield Jr. is expected to miss two to four weeks with a slight rib fracture. We could not confirm the final score, so we will not report one. For future Buccaneers numbers, the quarterback situation and Winfield's absence in the secondary are the two inputs that matter most.

FCS

Florida A&M at Alabama State. Alabama State is favored by about 14.5. Florida A&M is 1-4. Alabama State is 3-2 and 2-0 at home. The kickoff was moved up because of weather. That matters in two ways: weather can suppress passing efficiency and total scoring, and a changed start time can affect late information on availability. We weight weather explicitly and will note it on the ledger entry if we post a call.

The remaining FCS slate is deep, with Ivy League games such as Dartmouth at Yale and Harvard at Cornell, plus Samford at Chattanooga, Youngstown State at Indiana State and Southern Illinois at South Dakota. FCS numbers carry more uncertainty than FBS numbers: smaller data samples, thinner injury reporting and wider rating error. Our standard for posting in this tier is higher, and passing on most of it is an expected result, not a failure.

Every pick we post today will appear on the public ledger with its line, and it will settle there regardless of the outcome. Losses stay on the record alongside wins.
