First posted call: MIL ML, in MIL @ CHC. Jacob Misiorowski is listed for Milwaukee against David Peterson for Chicago. A disciplined model weighs starter form and expected innings, bullpen availability behind each starter, the platoon splits in each projected lineup, and park factors at Wrigley including wind. The moneyline read reflects where our number lands relative to the market, and we are on Milwaukee to win outright.
Second posted call: LAD ML, in STL @ LAD. St. Louis lists a starter to be determined against Yoshinobu Yamamoto for Los Angeles. The uncertainty on the visiting side is itself an input: an undefined starter widens the range of outcomes and forces the model to lean on bullpen and lineup baselines. We are on Los Angeles to win outright. Both calls are on the ledger and will settle publicly, win or lose.
Among the rest of the board, two starting-pitcher notes are verifiable. Patrick Sandoval starts for Boston against Cal Raleigh and Seattle, first pitch 4:10 p.m. ET at Fenway Park. He is 1-3 with a 4.20 ERA and 48 strikeouts across 45 2/3 innings; his last outing Friday against the Yankees ran 5 1/3 innings with one earned run on three hits. He is opposed by Bryce Miller for Seattle. In the desert, Phillies rookie Andrew Painter makes his 19th start against Taylor Clarke and Arizona. Painter is 3-8 with a 5.95 ERA over 98 1/3 innings and 85 strikeouts; his most recent outing Saturday against the Angels covered six innings, three earned runs on two hits. That ERA and the rookie variance mean wide error bars on any Painter number, and we state that plainly.
Other matchups worth a look for line-shoppers include Dylan Cease for Toronto at Cleveland, Casey Mize for San Diego at Cincinnati, and Eury Perez for Miami at Kansas City. We have not posted calls on those, and absence of a call is not a hidden opinion: it means our edge did not clear the threshold we require before committing to the ledger.
College Football
No college football is played today. The standout opener on this card is Colorado at Georgia Tech, scheduled Thursday, September 3 at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field, 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Both teams enter 0-0. They met in Boulder last season, where Georgia Tech won 27-20. Georgia Tech finished 9-4 last year with a 6-2 ACC mark; Colorado finished 3-9 and 1-8 in the Big 12.
Colorado arrives heavily remade. Offensive coordinator Brennan Marion brings an up-tempo scheme with quarterback Julian Lewis running it, and San Jose State transfer Danny Scudero joins after a near 1,300-yard, 10-touchdown receiving season. The defense is new under coordinator Chris Marve, with no returning familiar faces. That volume of turnover is exactly what widens a Week 1 projection: a sharp model discounts prior-year team ratings when personnel and scheme both change, leans on returning production and recruiting baselines, and treats early-season numbers as provisional. We will price this opener as its own event closer to kickoff, and any call posts to the ledger.
Elsewhere on the listed Week 1 board, San Jose State at USC, North Carolina at TCU, and Colorado's ACC neighbors offer early tone-setters, but none is played today.
NFL
No NFL games are played today. Week 1 does not begin until September 9.
